The German Shepherd Studbook, ZUCHTBUCH FUR DEUTFDHE, SCHAFERHURIDE (SZ), ENTRIES SZ#41 to SZ#76. There are four pure wolves in the pedigree. The first German Shepherd was registered in 1899, and was called Hector Linksrhein. Later he was renamed Horand Von Grath, and was bred to a Wolf-Shepherd-Crossbred female named Mores-Pheningen, a trained herding dog which produced Hecktor V Schwaben, which became the German Seiger for 1900 and 1901. The German Seiger for the years 1906 and 1907, Roland Von Starkenburg, was the grandson of Hector V Schwaben. Starkenburg can be found in many modern German Shepherd pedigrees.
